About 970 railway slippers have been intercepted in a heavy-duty truck in Nasarawa state by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, which was conveyed to an unknown destination.

The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Abass Muhammed stated this during a Press Conference organized at the Command’s headquarter in Lafia, the state capital.

He said that the command has resolved to ensure that government infrastructures and properties in the state were protected, came up with strategies aimed at tracking down on vandals across the 13 local government areas of the state.

“We have been making efforts to ensure that government infrastructures that are in Nasarawa state are protected and I am happy that we are making progress. I want to thank our colleagues in Benue state because they supported us in recovering these vandalized 970 railway slippers which were being taken to an unknown destination.

“We intercepted the truck at Kadarko in Keana local government area here in Nasarawa state, but we did not see the vandals in the vehicle when it finally stopped. I have directed officers of the command to go after them and ensure that they are arrested. The investigation is also ongoing to know all those involved and to know the destination of the vehicle and where it took off from”, he noted

Also speaking, North-central District Manager of the Nigeria Railway Corporation, Frank Ajoku, appealed to residents of the state to always be vigilant and not allow vandals to cause a setback to the growth of the state.

“The attitude of people going about vandalizing our railway materials has to stop. It is illegal to carry out such an act which can cause a setback to the state and the nation,

“The federal government invested heavily in railway infrastructure to ensure that our country is developed so I see no reason why some individuals will derive joy in stealing the railway materials. I’m appealing that we should be patriotic citizens and have a change of attitude”, he added.
