Ogun State commends Rotary Club Omole-Golden for donating Science laboratories

The Ogun State government has given a nod to the gesture of the Rotary Club of Omole-Golden for handing over a renovated and re-equipped Physics and Biology laboratories for Ajuwon High School in the State.

The State Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu said that such initiative was terrific and would further raise education standard that would nurture tomorrow leaders in the area of Science development.

Professor Arigbabu who was represented by a management Staff, Mrs. Rukiyat Adeoba stated that such gesture by the Club has been consistent and it would go a long to assist the students in their Science studies.

He said; “This is great and it has always been like that by this Club, Omole-Golden District 9110, over the years they have contributed immensely to the development of education in Ogun State. I am extremely delighted for the immense contributions so far and I equally implore the school to take up the responsibility and ensure judicious use of the facility.

”This effort is a way of giving back to the society and we urge spirited individuals and corporate bodies to as well join in this regard to support such initiative. The State is appreciative of this and will continue to thank the Club for this noble gesture in the area of supporting education in Ogun State,” he said.

The Commissioner further stressed that ”the State is working to raise the bar in the area of science and technology and with the support from a body like Rotary Club, it would fast track the process.”

Enabling environment
The President of the Rotary Club of Omole-Golden District 9110, Mrs. Favour Madu said that the commissioning of both Physics and Biology Laboratories of Ajuwon High school was to create enabling atmosphere to study science subjects.

She said this would bring about good results at the end of the day.

Mrs Madu stated that conducive environment improves learning and assimilation and that prompted the idea of a continuous upgrading of facilities around the school environment.

According to her; “the last Rotary, we did the Chemistry Lab when we were led by Alli Hassan and because it is a three block, we choose to add more Laboratories and now we have been able to complete the entire blocks which has Biology, Chemistry and Physics laboratories which currently has standard equipped accessories that will make learning easier and faster.”

”During the last exam, we have to quickly speed up the pace of the project in order to assist them with their exams, though not completed at that time, but with this official handing over, we believe it will impact positively on their subsequent performances.”

Mrs Madu maintained that the Club 7th area of focus which is supporting the environment would continue with planting of trees and flowers around the school premises, stressing that going forward, Rotary Club would continue to take up more projects in the school.

Girl Child
The Club had engaged hundreds of Girls in the school to mark this years’ Girl Child Day with distribution of sanitary pads and education on personal hygiene.

Mrs Madu said; “the Girl child project for the girl is to be empowered and educated and for them to know how to manage their menstrual hygiene. We educated them on how to enhance their self-confidence and to know that the period is not belittling her but to let her know that she has become a woman and she has to be great to the nation by the things she takes in.”

Way to go
The District Governor for Rotary International District 9110 comprising about 131 Rotary Clubs in Lagos and Ogun States, Mr. Aderemi Bello explained that ”Science is the bedrock of any development and giving back in this form, is a way to introduce science to the students because good laboratories will allow them to see practical of what they have been taught.”

Mr Bello said; “In the World over, Science is very key, it is so fundamental to any development you have around. And that is why we give priority to it and this is what we have been asked to do, that in this rotary year, we should do more of service project, collaboration, partnership and community engagement

”In Rotary, we have Rotary foundation with a focus on Education and we have done that by refurbishing two Science laboratories in pursuance of science education promotion in Ogun State. We have seen brand new Physics and Biology Laboratories and I think that is the way to go to achieve through community service.”

With the completion of the Laboratories, the Students promised to live up to expectations by coming out with good grades at the end of their examinations in all their Science subjects.
