Stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, converged on the ancient town of Ogoja to join the senator representing Cross River North district, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe as he dedicated his recent victory at the polls to God.
Senator Jarigbe, who was sworn in to the red chambers in September 2021 after a year’s legal battle over the authenticity of his PDP candidacy, described his emergence as “an act of God.“
At a thanksgiving mass held at Saint Benedict Catholic Church, Igoli in Ogoja local government area, Jarigbe said, “first and foremost, we thank God Almighty for his divine help and protection throughout the course of this political battle of liberation that we have fought and won in the overall interest of Cross River northern senatorial district. What God cannot does not exist. My becoming senator is clearly an act of God.”
He also expressed appreciation to the Ogoja people for supporting him and giving Ogoja province a voice after 50 years, saying “I really appreciate all of you for the overwhelming support. Today after 50 years, Ogoja has been heard politically. It is only God we as a people should thank for making this a reality.”
The Bishop of Ogoja Catholic Diocese, Most Reverend Donatus Edet Akpan urged politicians to attract meaningful development to their communities.
The service, which later dovetailed into a political rally of some sort featured several goodwill messages from the former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, the senator representing Cross River central, Senator Sandy Onor as well as the state chairman of the PDP, Mr. Venatius Ikem.
