Following the recent launch of the digital currency, e-Naira by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA has cautioned Nigerians of cybercriminals who have now deployed means to scam and defraud people through a new frivolous scheme.
According to NITDA, the scheme, which the criminals perpetrate through Short Message Service (SMS) broadcast with links attached claims that; “Central Bank through the directives of the Finance Minister is disbursing 50 Billion e-naira currency to Citizens who are willing to register and get the e-naira wallet.
“The criminals try to get sensitive information such as National Identification Number, NIN and corresponding phone number via the link the aim to defraud unsuspecting victims.”

The agency hereby alerts the public to be wary of such schemes and adhere to the following; “Visit the only official website of the Government agencies to confirm the authenticity of any scheme. Government scheme /grant applications and information are free. Do not disclose your personal information and financial details. Avoid checking unknown links.”
