Kano State Governor Presents 2022 proposed Budget

Governor of Kano State, Dr. Umar Ganduje has presented the sum of N196,353,468,505.10 billion as budget appropriation for the 2022 fiscal year to the state house of assembly.

The 2022 appropriation is slightly lower than the 2021 approved budget of over N197 Billion.

The budget proposal tagged “Budget for Consolidation and Prosperity”  has the sum of N 107,817,853,783 billion representing 55 percent earmarked for capital expenditure, While N88,473,314,717,03 billion is for recurrent expenditure representing 45 percent of the total budget.

Governor Ganduje said “the budget will consolidate the needs of the public and the agenda of the government.”

Educational sector has largest share with the sum of 51.6 Billion Naira representing 26% of the total amount, followed by Works and infrastructural development with the sum of 33.8 Billion.

“Health sector has 15 Billion Naira representing 16 percent, which is above the Abuja declaration of 15 percent mandatory allocation to the health services sector by states across the federation,” the Governor said.

Others are water resources 13 Billion Naira, security 11.3 billion Naira, Transportation 6.5 Billion Naira, Agriculture 5.7 Billion Naira, Rural and community development 5.3 Billion, information 2.3 billion, Environment 2 Billion Naira, while manufacturing commerce and tourism got 1.Billion Naira.

Speedy Action
The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Honourable Ibrahim Hamisu Chidari, while receiving the budget promised speedy action on the budget before the end of 2021 without compromising the statutory duty of the Assembly

He also extended invitations to CSOs to come and make their contributions.

He said, “We will ensure that the Budget is timely passed for it to commence at the beginning of the budget year 2022.

“CSOs should be ready for invitation to participate in the scrutiny of the budget and make contributions.”

He said the assembly was aware of revenue shortfalls caused by insecurity, Covid-19 among others.

Efforts Towards Revenue Boost
The Speaker promised to continue to redouble efforts towards revenue boost and revive areas of revenue lost to the state via bills passing through the Assembly.

He called on Revenue generating agencies, especially the Kano state internal Revenue Service, to redouble their efforts towards revenue generation in the state.

“We call on all Revenue generating agencies to aggressively bring on board new ways of revenue rather than waiting for the federal allocation. 

“We also urge revenue agencies to Stand up and meet revenue targets,” the Speaker advised.

He said the Assembly was also aware of the challenges being faced by farmers in the state caused by drought as effect of climate change expressing the need for urgent action to assuage the problem.

“Farmers in rural areas are facing threat of food shortage due to drought, We as leaders most evolve ways to assuage the problem to avoid crisis,” he stated.

He commended the Kano state Governor Dr Umar Ganduje for efforts in ensuring the development of the state, promising that the Assembly would always support him in this regard.
