Delta State Begins Preparations For 2022 National Sports Festival
The Delta State government has began preparations ahead of hosting the 2022 National Sports Festival as a memorandum of understanding between the State and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will soon be signed.
Team Delta are the current champions of the National Sports Festival having won seven times from the last nine editions since 2000 and the National Youth Games, where it has won all six editions of the Games since inception.
The Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, said in Asaba that facilities for the games are already on ground. He revealed that the government was ready to award the contract for the new venues for the games.
Okowa said having won the National Sports Festival in Edo and the National Youth Games in Ilorin, the attention of the State Government is now shifted to preparing and hosting the National Sports Festival.
The Delta State Sports Commission chairman said that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has expressed satisfaction with the State’s performance at the National Youth Games in Ilorin.
He lauded the Sports Minister Chief Sunday Dare for taking steps to check age cheats in the National Youth Games asserting that the State Sports Commission had been in the forefront of discouraging age cheats at the Games.
Okowa also said there was need to add new venues to ensure that the state lived up to it’s billing as the home of sports in Nigeria.
