The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission says no fewer than 8,000 potential investors are expected to attend the 2021 Investment Summit.
Chairman of the Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa said this at a press briefing in Abuja, Nigeria to herald the 2021 Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit.
According to her, this year’s Summit comes on the heels of Government’s current emphasis on providing unprecedented support for the Small business sector, agriculture and infrastructure development.
She said the Summit is a private sector Initiative backed by the Government to target Nigerians in Diaspora for inward investment especially in the light of heightened risk profile for the country.
“The Summit will target the key sectors of the economy- Agribusiness, Education, Health care, Creative, Entertainment, Sports, Infrastructure and Real Estate, Manufacturing, Telecommunications, ICT and FinTech as well as Oil and Gas”.
“Given that these are the top three job creating sectors in any economy, it vindicates the decision of the Summit organisers to prioritise them. Diaspora investors will therefore be encouraged to channel their investments into these, as well as other sectors,” she noted.
The Coordinator, Nigerians in Diaspora Summit, Dr Badewa Williams said targeting the Nigerians in Diaspora is a more effective way of attracting investors.
“Definitely because of the social connecrions, definitely because their families are still all here, a way of securing their money, so it’s not just about the social well-being, but economic well-being of their family members and Nigerians in general,” Williams said.
The theme for this year’s Summit is ‘Diaspora Partnership and Linkages for Post- COVID Economic Growth’.
It will recognise the important role Diaspora can play and also played in helping other countries achieve economic growth and transformation.
