Gombe APC demands apology from Senator Goje

The Gombe State All Progressives Congress, APC, has demanded an apology from the Senator representing Gombe Central,  Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, over violent clashes in Gombe.

Reports state that five people were killed following the clash due to Senator Goje’s visit, a former governor. During its state party executive meeting in Gombe, officials of the party expressed their grievances at the violent turn of events in the state, to which they attributed to the former governor and chieftain of the party, consequently demanding an apology from him.

The officials noted that they were standing firm with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, whom they described as not supporting violence.

Speaking on behalf of the executive members, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Gombe, Mr Moses Kyari, called on members to eschew violence.

“The Gombe state executive Congress at its meeting on Saturday 6th November 2021, unanimously agreed and reached the following resolutions;

“APC condemns in very strong terms the incidence of yesterday (Friday) where a violent crowd of the Senator Danjuma Goje’s supporters led to the loss of five lives, destroying property of the APC worth millions of Naira.

“The party will not condone this barbaric act and will take measures to discipline any party member no matter how highly placed they are. We call on security men to carry out an appropriate investigation into the matter, and whosoever is found guilty must be punished according to the laws of the land.”

He said the party had agreed to compel Senator Goje to tender a complete apology to members of the party and indigenes of the state over the incident.

Kyari said the party Executive Council had equally assured party supporters in the state that the APC remained a solid and united party under the governor’s leadership.

“Under his watch, no indigene of the state will be injured or harmed for any reason other than politicking.”

Police: One person died during the clash

In a related development, the Gombe State Police Command has said that a person’s life was lost during the clash with scores of vehicles destroyed.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Ishola Babaita, said the discreet investigation was being carried out to arrest perpetrators and prosecute them before the court of law.

The statement urged the political gladiators in the state to shield their swords. It warned all politicians in the state that the time for campaign and other political activities was yet to be lifted.
