Super Eagles Coach Gives Squad Update Ahead Of Liberia Clash

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has selected 21 players for their upcoming Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Lone Stars of Liberia, scheduled to hold at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Morocco on Saturday.

With nine points in the Group, Nigeria needs all three points from the encounter in order to stay in contention to reach the knockout phase of the World Cup qualifiers, set for March 2022. Only the group winners will proceed to the knockout phase that will be a home-and-away exercise to produce Africa’s five flag bearers in Qatar.

The Super Eagles had a gym session in the city of Tangier on Tuesday a the hotel in the morning and were scheduled to train in the evening at the venue of the match.

The 45,000–capacity Grand Stade de Tanger in Morocco will serve as the home ground for the Lone Stars after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ruled that there was no venue in Liberia fit and proper to host international matches.

Nigeria currently tops the Group C table with nine points, followed by Cape Verde with seven points, while the Central African Republic and Liberia are in third and fourth positions with four and three points respectively.
