Health Ministry gets N2.35bn for procurement

The Federal Executive Council has approved N2.35 billion contracts for procurements in the Ministry of Health.

The approval was given on Wednesday at the meeting of the Council presided over by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire told State House correspondents that the approval followed memos presented to the Council by his ministry.

Ehanire said that the Council approved N1.24 billion for an Oncology and Radiotherapy Centre at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, to enable the facility to handle cancer cases.

He said that the contract would be executed by a Nigerian company with a completion period of 42 weeks.

The minister said that the other memos approved by the Council were for the re-equipping of the Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, which is also one of Nigeria’s centres for managing cancer cases.

“The most important is the leading accelerator which is going to be replaced,” Ehanire said.

He added that the Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) machine would also be replaced.

According to him, the Council approved N887.6million from the Special Intervention Fund for the replacement of the linear accelerator.

He said that cost of the MRI machine, which would Replace the old dysfunctional one” was N440.4 million from the budget appropriation.
