The National Youth Service Corps NYSC in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria has Organised 2021 NYSC/Corps employers training.
The State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Mercy Bamai Dawuda disclosed this to Journalists in her address during the opening Ceremony of the training/workshop of NYSC/Corps employers in Abakaliki, the State Capital.
Bamai said the program is to create awareness on how Corps members posted to different employers should be treated.
The State Coordinator urged employers to always motivate corps members under them so that they can perform excellently.
She noted that Ebonyi State is a very hospital state but urged them to do more as part of their obligation to create enabling environment for them to operate.
“Most of the corps members serving in Ebonyi State are non indigenes so they need and deserve a warm hospitality from their host communities to happily discharge their duties.
“It’s my believe that this workshop would increase the understanding between Corps employers, Corps members and NYSC scheme,” Bamai said.
She thanked all the participants and appreciated them for coming.
The Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Dr. Kenneth Igwe represented by Dr Uzor Augustine urged the Corps members to always think out of their purse.
Dr. Uzor advised them to involve in self development on what could help them after their service year with their employers or can even be retained by your employer.
The State Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Human Capital development Barrister Jonathan Okonkwo, representing his Commissioner Mrs. An Aligwe said corps members should be seen as our brothers and sisters and not as foreigners.
“The Corps members have no Fathers and Mothers to the place where they are posted to, on that note, they should be treated as our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters,” Okonkwo added.
Also, the State Commissioner for Youths and sport, Mr. Charles Akpenika represented by the Head of Department, Youths Development, Mr. Alo Amechi advised all employers both in Public and Private sectors to work with corps members with the rules of their engagement.
“You must not maltreat corps members nor use them as laborer. If we find any of this offences on the side of any employer, the law must be used on such person,” Alo added.
