KDHA Budget Defence: Legislators commend MDAs, identify loopholes

As the Kaduna state House of Assembly commence the budget defence exercise for the 2022 fiscal year, the legislators commended and approved the presentations by the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies however, they identified some challenges that hindered some from carrying out their responsibilities.

The state commissioner for agriculture, Mohammad Sabo Nanono said he hoped the proposed fund by his ministry gets released accordingly because cash backing has been the major challenge of the ministry.

The Chairman, house committee on environment Hon. Danladi Gwazim, said the presentation was done properly as no ambiguity was highlighted in all that the ministries presented.

He urged the ministries to make sure that they do well in all areas to ensure that the budget is properly implemented in order to move the ministry forward.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for environment, Ja’afar Sani said the budget performance for 2021 is on the low side due to some challenges faced by flooding and erosion.

He said 2022 will be different as more projects will be implemented and all outstanding will be cleared “as this regime does not intend to handover with any outstanding liability.” 

He said that the ministry alongside it’s staff and the agencies under the ministry are working hard towards ensuring clean, safety and conducive environment for sustainable economic development.

According to him, by year 2022 “we are transit to an integrated waste management system, which would encourage more investors be part of the project. And also plant more trees and water ways”.

As the ministry proposed the sum of over N1.940 billion, he said there will be a lot of improvement and budget properly utilized as new geological laboratory and museum would also be constructed.

The MDAs who were present for the defense exercise included planning and budget commission, office of the auditor general, ministry of agriculture, ministry of local government affairs, and ministry of environment and natural resources.
