The Kwara State Government has tasked the residents of the state to shun open defecation as it poses big threat to human health.

Addressing the press in her office in commemoration of 2021 World Toilet Day, themed: ‘Valuing Toilets’, the State Commissioner for Environment, Remilekun Banigbe said open defecation is a national issue that needs to be tamed before it tames us.

Banigbe disclosed that the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration has put up measures to limit and eradicate open defecation totally in the state.

The Commissioner said eleven modern toilets facilities were built across all local governments in the metropolis for the convenience of the people.

Banigbe said aside the public toilets, the government also ensured that modern toilets were built at public schools so as to guide the students against open defecation even from the school level.

She, however, warned anyone planning to build a house to include toilet facility in the plan before he or she embarks on the project.

The Commissioner disclosed that the ministry is working hand in hand with the Physical Planning Authority to ensure that toilet facilities are considered in all drawings and plans, else, the building won’t be approved.

The commissioner therefore appealed to the people of the state to defecate responsibly because the government is waging war against open defecation.
