Falconets thumb Congo 4-0 in FIFA U-20 W/Cup qualifier
Nigeria’s Falconets have made clear their intentions to represent Africa at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World cup with a 4-0 hammering of Congo away in Brazzavile.
Mercy Idoko opened scores in the 38th minute, while Flourish Sebastine doubled the lead 47th minute.
The Nigerians showed no mercy for the hapless Congolese as Esther Onyenezide hit a 50th minute penalty spot and Deborah Ajibola finished the job 5th minute later with a well-taken goal.
With the emphatic scoreline, Congolese fans who thronged the Stade Alphonse Massamba-Debat were left totally embarrassed.
The Falconets can now wait to add to the woes of the young Congolese when they visit for the return leg at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos on Saturday, 18th December.
Prolific striker Mercy Idoko would surely add to her five goals – which should gladden coach Chris Danjuma.
To reach the third round, the Falconets had thumped their counterparts from Central African Republic 7-0 in their first leg encounter in Douala, before wrapping things up at a stroll in Lagos, with a further four goals to the kitty.
Congo drew 1-1 with Egypt’s U20 girls in Cairo and then won the return 3-1 in Brazzaville to be eligible for the fixture with the Falconets.
