Owners of private school in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, operating outside the nationally approved curriculum may have to rethink their decision as the FCT Education Secretariat has vowed to sanction such institutions.

The Secretary of the Education Secretariat, Malam Sani El-ktuzu, said the secretariat will no longer tolerate situations where strange elements are introduced in schools all in the name of branding.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after receiving the official handover briefs of the secretariat, El-katuzu also decried the outright violation of laws put in place by regulatory agencies.

In his words, “There are some other challenges I also need to point out like private proprietors of schools within the FCT operating outside the laws they are supposed to follow like teaching outside the nationally accepted curriculum. No school in Nigeria will teach any child outside the approved curriculum. There are schools that adopt curriculum from elsewhere to come and teach our schools and we will not tolerate that.”

The Secretary further warned that the secretariat under his watch will not recognise or shield highly placed individuals.

There are certain actions that private schools are supposed to collaborate with the regulatory agencies which are being flaunted. We will not tolerate that.

“I discussed with some people and they told me that the proprietors of private schools are the who is who of this country. We will not make any distinction between highly placed and commoners. All Nigerians are equal and we should operate within the law,” he warned.

While acknowledging the limited time with which to achieve his mandate, the newly appointed Secretary advised the staff to brace up for the task ahead as he intends to push them, to make his mark in the education sector in the FCT.

Earlier, the Director of Administration and Finance of the FCT Education Secretariat, Mr. Leramoh, thanked the FCT Minister and staff of the department for the opportunity to serve.
