Following its refurbishment, the MKO Abiola stadium Abuja is set to host its first football tournament this year.

This tournament will serve as a warm-up for Nigerian premier league club sides ahead of the upcoming season.

Teams slated to participate include Kano Pillars, Sunshine Stars, Lobi Stars and current champions Akwa United.

It is being organized by Daniel Amokachi,  Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Sports in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Amokachi said the event would serve as a good opportunity to test the new facilities at the Abuja stadium.

He said the pre season tournament will be tagged Presidential Cup.

There will be appearance fees for the teams and their feeding plus accommodation will be taken care of“, he said.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday and end on Sunday with two games played each day.
