The remains of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi, Ajagungbade III, has been committed to mother earth.
He was buried according to Islamic rites at about 4:30 pm, on Sunday, inside a vault in the palace.
The Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan; former governors Rashidi Ladoja and Adebayo Alao-Akala; Governor Seyi Makinde’s Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; Senator Fatai Buhari and Senator Adeseun, among other dignitaries, visited the palace, on Sunday, to condole with the family of the late monarch.
News of the demise of the monarch, who was said to have breathed his last around 2 am on Sunday at the age of 95 after reigning for 48 years, had filtered in on Sunday morning.
The burial prayer was conducted by the Chief Imam of Ogbomoso, Tholiat Oluwasina Ayilara.
Thousands of Ogbomosho indigenes and residents, on Sunday, besieged the palace even before the transition was announced formally.
The fear and uncertainty that trailed the news of the demise of the monarch was laid to rest on Sunday afternoon when the ruling house officially announced the passage of the first class monarch.
The Gbagun Ruling House of Ogbomoso officially announced the demise of the 95-year-old monarch in a statement signed by Dr Aderemi Oyewumi.
The statement by the royal family reads: “With total submission to the will of Almighty God and on behalf of Gbagun Ruling House, we announce the death of our Father, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, CON, CFR, Soun of Ogbomosoland, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday, 12th December, 2021, marking the end of 48 years of a glorious reign.
“Kabiyesi is survived by wives, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.”
