Nigeria, Burkina Faso sign MoU on Security, Trade

Nigeria and Burkina Faso have signed Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) on security, trade, sports child trafficking, leisure amongst others.

The two West African countries signed the MoU at the closing session of the 3rd session of the Nigeria Burkina Faso Joint Bi-National Commission in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The two countries signed the agreements on key issues to enhance cooperation to prevent, suppress and punish trafficking in persons especially women, children and other key areas

The two countries also signed an agreement to strengthen security and Defence ties in a bid to combat terrorism and the security threat affecting the West African region.

Speaking to the journalists after the signing of the MoU, the Nigerian envoy to Burkina Faso, Ambassador Misitura Abdulraheem said the MoU would enhance the relations between the two countries

“The areas we have signed are very vital. The areas of trade, sports and leisure and the areas of prevention of child trafficking. 

“They are all vital and with this beginning of re-education and it will enhance the successful relationship of the two countries.

” It will be beneficial for the nationals of the two countries .

“Trade is the essential components parts of development for the two countries and we are going to work assiduously to ensure that the next bi-national commission will be on the achievements of the agreements we have signed.”

” You have seen the seriousness from the Nigeria delegation and the seriousness in the Burkina Faso delegation. 

” The Nigerian population in Burkina Faso is quite a lot and the estimated numbers of Nigerian in Burkina Faso is about a million and they are into trading and we have some common products together. 

There is going to be a mutual understanding in terms of business. Once the business forum is established it will enhance trade relations through ECOWAS

“Although Nigeria is anglophone and Burkina Faso is francophone the two nations have successfully held the first and second sessions of the joint commission to strengthen ties.

The second Bi-National Commission was held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso in 2017 to help smoothen the relations between the two nations for a guaranteed future.

Nigeria and Burkina Faso established bilateral relations in 1972
