‘Nigeria has good chances for the future’ – Rohr
Recently sacked Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr says he believes he has created a good team with good chances for the future.
Rohr was reacting two days after the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) relieved him of his post over what it termed his inability to ‘control the dressing room.’
The German coach recently qualified the Super Eagles for the 2022 AFCON tournament in Cameroun as well as the World Cup final play-off.
Popular demand was for the ex-International defender to be axed because of the poor and dull display by the team in some games.
However, Rohr says he leaves his post frustrated, but with no hard feelings.
“It’s a huge frustration, but I don’t want to argue; it’s not my style,” Rohr told AFP.
“(I’m) convinced that they will have a very good CAN because the team is in place, and this very united group is ready for the challenges that await it. I’m going to have a hard time doing without these great players and this very united staff, but the environment is not always favourable; we cannot control everything.”
Rohr took charge in 2016 and led the team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
Austine Eguavoen has been appointed to lead Nigeria to AFCON in interim capacity, pending the appointment of a substantive coach for the team.
