The Code of Conduct Bureau says it is not just an assets declaration organisation but that the Nigerian constitution gives it fourteen Codes and the assets declaration is one of the fourteen Codes.
The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Professor Mohammed lsah, disclosed at a Workshop on “Strict compliance with Assets declaration and Code of Conduct for Public Officials” in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
Professor Isah said that there was the need to familiarize the Public Officers with the fourteen Codes provided by the law.
“And what do we mean by probe, these are the standard of behaviour particularly moralistic aspect of it while they are at work,” He said
He also said that there is a need for the public Officers to be enlightened and acquainted with hard paper to avoid challenges while doing this online, as the agency goes digital.
“Let them know to familiarize them at the same time we have a prosecutorial part which is our hard part which just doesn’t want to go to prosecution without Education so we are putting Education first so that everybody will know that ignorance is not acceptable in law but in moral aspect we want to see that everybody is fully aware of what they have to do,” he said.
The Chairman added that Public Officers are in the custody of the wealth of the Nation that they are supposed to implement policies using the resources of the Nation.
“But at the same time we want to safeguard the resources of the Nation so that these resources will not go into wrong places,” he said.
Earlier, the Assistant General Manager Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority Nigeria, Mr Morgan Mmahi commended all the participants and Code Conduct Bureau for the enlightenment exercise.
He reiterated the need for staff to comply with all requisite laws as they are needed in the fight against corruption.
