Abia State Farmers Association gets inputs from NG-CARES project

Members of the Abia State Rural Egwunaeleke Akpahia Farmers Association have received inputs from the Abia State Food Security NG – Cares Result Area 2 Project, to enhance their food production.

The inputs, comprising 57 bags of N.P.K. and Urea, 76 cans of herbicide and 570 bundles of cassava stems were handed over to them by the Finance Commissioner, Dr. Aham Uko.

The Commissioner, who said the project was designed by the state government to cushion the negative effects of COVID-19 on communities, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the inputs to enable others benefit.

The State Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) Manager, Chief Israel Amanze said the gesture was part of the state government’s fulfillment of the various promises it made to farmers, adding that more will follow.

The Project Coordinator of the Abia State Food Security NG- Cares Result Area 2 Project, Pastor Ibe Johnson said out of the 70 beneficiaries under the farmer’s association, 19 would get cassava inputs, another 19 will receive cassava assets, while others would be empowered with piggery, poultry and fishery assets.

He recalled that a Solar powered borehole with toilet facilities were provided for the Egwunaeleke community, adding that arrangements are on to rehabilitate their existing farm roads.

The President General of the Egwunaeleke community, Elder Ozoemelam Ejiogu commended the gesture, promising to make best use of the inputs to boost food production in the state.
