About 1500 Participants Set For NOGIG In Abuja

About 1500 athletes are expected to participate in the 19th edition of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, which is scheduled to begin in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on April 21st, 2024.

Speaking at the Pre-event press conference in Abuja, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Ifeyinwa Mojo-Eyes, stated that 1500 athletes will be representing 13 companies in 13 different sports events which includes golf, tennis, table tennis, squash and badminton.

Other sports to feature in the week-long fiesta are football, athletics, volleyball, chess, scrabble. swimming, 8-ball Pool and basketball.

Mojo-Eyes added that the theme of this year’s edition EMPOWER WELLNESS; IGNITE PRODUCTIVITY, is aimed at encouraging a healthy workforce which will in turn boost productivity.

“The major objective is to come together, synergies, network and get the health benefits attached. The benefits of sports cannot be overemphasise,” Mojo-Eyes said.

“With a healthy workforce, you get the best from the employees. That’s why we empower our colleagues through sports. Sports benefits you mentally, psychologically, physically, socially and the totality of the human being is put in place.”

Teams participating in this year’s edition are NNPC, SHELL, TOTAL ENERGIES, NCDMB, NMDPRA, NUPRC, ARADEL, OANDO, SEPLAT, NLNG, CHEVRON, PTI and EXXONMOBIL

The games, which will officially begin on 21st April will end on the 27th of April, with most of the events holding at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

NNPC are the defending champions of the NOGIG games, having won the last edition held in Lagos four years ago.
