The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has resumed weekend operations to curb illegalities and criminalities in Abuja.

The FCTA Director, Department of Development Control, Muktar Galadima, who led the task team over the weekend to dislodge some suspected criminals at Jahi District forest, explained that his department decided to go the extra mile to achieve more results in the war against criminalities and other forms of illegal activities.

He noted that all the forests harbouring suspects capable of threatening security in the city would be completely cleared.

According to him, the administration decided to clear the Jahi forest because certain people had turned the place into an illegal relaxation spot that attracts suspected criminals.

“We see the place as a hiding place for men of the underworld and it is posing a serious challenge in terms of security. That is why we go after these places to remove the forests and illegal structures.

“We have also devised a new strategy to go beyond the normal 5 days working days. We have to go the extra mile by working on weekends now.

Collaborations

The FCTA Director disclosed that We are also collaborating with related agencies and departments to tackle all illegal issues around the places. This is a transitway corridor, not allocated to anybody, but we need to protect it.

He, therefore, warned that Mechanic workshop owners illegally operating within the reserved transit-way corridors in Abuja will henceforth be arrested, vehicles impounded, while the recalcitrant technicians would face Mobile Courts.

Findings showed that the administration had severally warned that all Mechanic Workshops should relocate to the approved sites in Apo and Wumba areas of the city.

Voice of Nigeria gathered that many technicians have remained adamant and continued to violate the rules and regulations, causing environmental nuisance and pollution.

A Supervisor in the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Moses Anyebe, said five vehicles were evacuated from illegal Mechanic Workshops.

We have evacuated 5 vehicles from this place. We will make the technicians and owners of the vehicles sign an undertaking not to come here again. And we will also send them to Mobile Court.
