In a remarkable display of dedication towards improving education standards in Anambra State, renowned Abuja-based philanthropist and business mogul, Dr. Christopher Ndubuisi (Ikenga Umuawulu), has donated a significant number of laptop computers to several schools in the region to bridge the digital divide and provide students with enhanced opportunities for learning and development.

Speaking during the presentation of over 50 laptop computers, certificates of attendance, and anti-virus software to the senior prefects of some selected secondary schools in the state, after the students were trained in basic Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills at Pinnatech Hotel and Suites in Awka, Dr. Ndubuisi emphasized the importance of equipping students with ICT tools to enable them to acquire necessary skills at an early stage.

He said, “Technology is the way of the world now. I don’t think there is any field where anyone wants to be successful without technology. Whether in medicine, law, engineering, or communications, there is a need to be tech-savvy to achieve success.

“The aim of this initiative is to catch them young at this level, and as the senior prefects, they are the leaders in their respective schools. Once these student leaders embrace the vision, it will be easier to pass it down to other students.”

“I firmly believe in the power of technology to transform the education landscape. My vision centres around equipping students with the necessary tools to compete in the rapidly evolving digital age. The digital divide has long been a persistent obstacle to quality education in underserved communities, and these laptop donations are crucial steps toward bridging this divide. By providing schools with essential technologies, students from all backgrounds now have equal access to educational resources, thereby levelling the playing field and promoting inclusivity.”

Dr. Ndubuisi also stated that other schools not included in the pilot project will be captured in subsequent exercises.

Earlier this year, Dr. Ndubuisi facilitated an ICT training program for selected Anambra youth in Awka and presented over 80 laptops to them.

On their part, the Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Anambra State, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, who spoke through the Board member in charge of the Awka Education Zone, Dr. Uche Okeke, and the Zonal Director of Education, Awka Zone, Mrs. Ngozi Chukwujekwu, appreciated the benefactor for his unwavering support towards education across the state.

In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Anambra State Ministry of Education, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, appreciated Dr. Ndubuisi for always supporting the State Government in areas of education and digitally upskilling the young ones, saying that the training is a clear definition of what Governor Chukwuma Soludo calls the “public-private-community partnership” model of development.

Dr. Agbaizu called on the students and teachers present at the event to take the knowledge they have garnered and grow other students who did not have the opportunity to attend the training.

“By equipping students and teachers with essential technologies, Ndubuisi is championing digital literacy and empowering the younger generation to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. This gesture serves as a testament to the transformative power of education when coupled with philanthropic vision and action,” she added.
