A non-profit and non-political Social Club, The City Club of Abuja has marked its 5th anniversary with a resounding commitment to its core values and objectives.
Founded and incorporated in 2018, the Club’s unwavering principles include promoting brotherliness, extending philanthropy within the community, supporting member welfare, fostering an enabling environment for cohesion and growth, emphasizing social and physical activities, and championing brotherhood and health.
The President of the club, Mr. Danjuma Ahmed, said that through the years, the City Club of Abuja has undertaken numerous philanthropic and charity projects that reflect its dedication to creating a positive impact on society.
These projects include:
-Orphanage Support (2020-2022): The Club consistently visited orphanages, providing essential donations of food, clothing, and various materials.
-Hospital Visitation and Medical Bill Support (2021-2022): Members generously extended their support to the sick by visiting hospitals and contributing to the payment of medical bills.
-COVID-19 Relief (2021): In a remarkable partnership with the Ahmed Isah/Bereke family, the Club extended its benevolence by donating cash and essential supplies to Abuja residents during the COVID-19 lockdown.
-Community Outreach (2021): During the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown, the City Club reached out to the less privileged in both Muslim and Christian communities, offering food items and financial assistance.
To commemorate its 5th anniversary, the City Club of Abuja outlined a series of significant philanthropic initiatives designed to advance human capital development and promote education.
He said that this year’s philanthropic endeavours are centred on the Workman Teachers Academy, situated in the Baragoni, a community in Bwari, a suburb in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.
The Workman Teachers Academy plays a vital role in bringing education to rural communities, with a specific focus on accessibility, availability, and affordability. The transformative activities of the academy which commenced on August 11, 2023, include:
-Renovating the Workman Teachers Academy to create a conducive and engaging learning environment for students.
-Provision of standard library fully equipped with a wide range of books will be provided to the same school to enrich the educational resources available to students.
The Chairman of the 5th-anniversary planning committee and the vice president of the club, Dr Oladipupo Fasan, highlighted the commitment of the club towards awarding scholarships to ten students.
“Scholarships will be awarded to deserving pupils at the school, ensuring their access to quality education until they obtain their first school leaving certificate,“ he said.
The Director of Operations at Workman Teachers Academy, Mr. Omonlumen Innocent, expressed gratitude to the City Club of Abuja for their extraordinary act of love and humanitarianism.
He said that the Club’s establishment of a well-equipped library, complete with books, chairs, and tables, as well as the provision of scholarships to ten pupils for an entire academic year, represents an unprecedented gesture of kindness.
“While words may fall short in conveying our deep appreciation, we offer our sincerest prayers that God will continue to elevate and bless the members of the City Club of Abuja, leading them to even greater heights in all aspects of life,” he said.
