Abuja: FEMD commiserates with Victims of Church Stampede

The Authority of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has commiserated with the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Abuja and family members of victims of the stampede that occurred in the church in the early hours of Saturday December 21, 2024.

The Administration through the acting Director General of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed said the stampede which claimed 10 lives including 4 children, also injured 10 persons.

The stampede occurred while the church was distributing palliatives to the less privileged members of the society.

The unfortunate occurred at 6.30 am today.

Mohammed noted that 9 of the injured persons who were taken to Maitama District Hospital have been discharged.

The FEMD Boss appealed to organizations that intend to give out food items to the less privileged to involve security agencies or the department for proper coordination.

He also advised such organizations to use coupons and divide the prospective beneficiaries into groups to avoid stampedes.

Mohammed further appealed to residents to use the 112 emergency toll free number in the event of a disaster.
