Abuja: Humanitarian Ministry’s new Permanent Secretary assumes Office

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development’s new Permanent Secretary, Nasir Sani Gwarzo has assumed office in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

This follows the recent redeployment of seven Permanent Secretaries in the federal civil service by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Gwarzo took over from Bashir Nura Alkali, who was redeployed to the Ministry of Works and Housing.

The outgoing Permanent Secretary, Bashir Alkali, during the handing over ceremony at the Ministry on Monday, April 11, 2022, informed his successor about the mandate, operations and achievements of the Ministry.

He wished his successor well in his new assignment and urged management and staff to accord him the necessary support and cooperation.

The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of the handing over note by Alkali to the new Permanent Secretary, to guide him on the activities of the Ministry.

Dr Gwarzo said he was in the Ministry to help the Minister achieve the mandate adding that investing in the welfare of staff is one of his priorities and expressed optimism that staff will reciprocate the good gesture by being more committed and dedicated to their duties.

The Director Department of Humanitarian Affairs, Ali Grema welcomed the new Permanent Secretary and promised him the full support and cooperation of all staff to succeed in his new place of assignment.

Dr Gwarzo who had worked in all layers of service and served as a focal officer of humanitarian services providing vaccines across different countries was redeployed from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

He is also a medical doctor, researcher, public health physician and Epidemiologist.
