Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule says the plan to construct a light rail transportation system from the FCT through Karu to Keffi has reached an advanced stage.
The governor disclosed this while responding to a request made at a town hall meeting in Karu local government.
Governor Sule said that his administration is discussing with a private investor for the laying of the light rail track, running from Apo to Keffi, to ease traffic along the congested Keffi-Abuja expressway.
According to the governor, part of the plan will involve constructing expansive parking lots in Keffi to allow commuters from different parts of the state and interstate travelers, to park their cars and take the fast train to Abuja to avoid traffic gridlock on the expressway.
Sule added that from his experience in the organized private sector the potentials in Karu is sufficient to foot the bills of the state.
On the Karu Mega Bus Terminal, he said that the consultant handling the project assured him that it will be completed in July this year.
