The President of the club, Katherine Adamu, said this on Friday during a lectures organised for women at Gidan Gimba Community, Karu Local Government, Nasarawa State.

The lecture was meant to empower them with know-how on establishing and managing small businesses.

“We are also meant to teach people skills that will help them in their life time, at least to be economically buoyant to help themselves and that is the reason why we are here today,” she stressed.

The women were taught on how to make liquid soap, prepare detergents and make fish pie, among others.

“Our coming here today is to show love to the community, because it is one of the areas of focus as Rotarian, particularly we in Abuja, we are meant to go out to communities and show love.

“As Rotarians, we are not meant to limit our functions to our meeting areas, but we are compelled to meet people and show them love, encourage them, help them by bringing them out of poverty”, she said.

She said the club sank borehole for the community in the last eight years, adding that it was currently building a classroom block in the community school.

She said the project was part of the club’s efforts towards providing a conducive teaching and learning environment in the community.

Mrs Evelyn Onyilo, the Assistant Zonal Coordinator, Rotary International, District 9127, said the club was also using the visit to the community to commemorate the 2024 World Polio Day celebration.

She advised the community to protect and put the projects to good use.
