Academics to explore intrinsic potentials of big data

The late former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe’s ideas will come alive on Friday as erudite scholars gather to discuss on how to move from Data visualization to data application in a symposium themed “Beyond Big Data,”.

The gathering is at the instance of the Oye Ibidapo-Obe Foundation for Educational Transformation (OIFFET) which has made all arrangements to host the second edition of the Ibidapo-Obe Biennial Memorial Symposium.

The symposium is deliberately themed with the aim of using the outcome to stimulate discussions on how big data and allied analytics could help the federal government navigate diverse socio-economic challenges that plague the country.

Co-Founder of Bluechip Technologies, Olumide Soyombo is billed to give the keynote address on the topic “Moving beyond Data Visualisation to Data Applications.”

He will be joined by other erudite scholars, such as Vice Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola; Former Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), Prof Peter Okebukola, and Dean of Engineering, U.S. Airforce Institute of Technology, Prof Deji Badiru, among others.

Notable business professionals, including Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Dr Jim Ovia; Chairman of Chams Plc, Sir Demola Aladekomo; CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa among many others, are also billed to attend the symposium.

The harvest of the discussions at the Rahaman Bello Hall, UNILAG, venue of the symposium, on the inherent potentials of big data will help in directing the government to better ways to position the country as a force to reckon with across the global marketplace.

For the Executive Director of IFFET, Mrs Olusola Ibidapo-Obe, the conceptualization of the Biennial Symposium is aimed at preserving the laudable academic, leadership, and professional legacy of late Ibidapo-Obe.

During his lifetime, he was visibly at the forefront of advocating for the potential of scientific advancements to be extensively explored across all walks of life in order to uncover solutions that could strategically place Nigeria on the global map.

The Symposium seeks to foster intelligent conversations around exploring the practical application of both big data and data analytics within the realities of today’s world.
