The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Saturday conducted a sanitation exercise on the busy Ahmadu Bello Way in Kaduna to mark its 60th anniversary.
The Commandant of the NDA, Maj.-Gen. John Ochai, who led the exercise, said the exercise is one of the events lined up to mark the anniversary.
Ochai urged Nigerians to maintain healthy and clean habits, while recalling that the Lagos state government recently outlawed the use of some products tagged as contributing to environmental untidiness.

He said the essence was to show gratitude to the people of Kaduna State for being wonderful hosts in the past 60 years.
This is part of giving back to the society. It is to ensure that Ahmadu Bello Way which is a central business district of the city is clean, as a matter of showing good health habit and maintaining environmental sanitation,” he said.
He said that rodents and mosquitoes transmitting diseases would be reduced and children as well as adults would not be sick.
“This is an example we are showing to businesses along the Ahmadu Bello Way, to maintain good health habits”.
He added that the sanitation was a way of showing the cadets that service to the nation goes in many ways apart from security.
He said that leadership entails that the armed forces must extend service to the nation and the people.
He said the NDA in Kaduna was showing such example with the sanitation, by disposing of the waste thrown around by people who conduct social activities and various businesses.
“Going forward, our clear message is that Kaduna must be clean, Ahmadu Bello Way must be sparkling so that businesses will strive and those engaged in socio-economic activities will go about in good health and hygienic environment”.
The institution observed a special Juma’at prayer in commemoration of its 60th anniversary, and will on Sunday, Feb. 4 hold an interdenominational service at the Saviour’s Chapel (Protestant), NDA, Afaka.
