As the 2022 Month of Ramadan is going to an end, the Anwarul- ul- Islam College, Agege Old students Association (ACAOSA) has admonished Nigerians to be patient and persevere amidst various challenges facing the country.
The Old Students Association made it the focus of their 2022 8th Annual Ramadan lecture which took place inside the College Hall in Agege area of Lagos.
Speaking as the Guest lecturer on the theme “Patience and Perseverance, the Vice -Chancellor of Fountain University, Osun state, Professor Amidu sanni urged Nigerians to be patient and endured inspite the challenges everyone is going through in the country.
Maintain Dignity
He stated that the way to success was for Nigerians to persevere and maintain dignity but Government should not take that for granted.
” I think as a matter of principle, every sane human being is supposed to exercise patience, persevere and endure as the way to success and that is what we are asking from Nigerians because of situation of the country but government must not over tax our patience and tolerance. It will become too unbearable, “he said.
The annual Ramadan lecture was a special one as the association under the chairmanship of Deputy Governor of Lagos state, Dr. Kadir Obafemi Hamzat did not only honour some of their members but also commission an Ultra-Modern first College Mosque for the benefit of the students.
On the choice of the theme ,the President General of ACAOSA , Alhaji Lawal Pedro, SAN, said it is Month of Ramadan which has to do with charity and doing good deed , helping the less privilaged which should not stop after the Month.
According to the President General, it is with such act that issue of poverty, Insecurity and corrupt practices can be addressed in Nigeria.
“I am advocating that we should try to continue with good deeds even after Ramadan as it is only then we can begin to address the root cause of insecurity that is facing us in Nigeria,”he stated.
He pointed that poverty, and hunger are the reason people engaged in corrupt practices and criminality in the society.
” if people in the authority can emulate the holy prophet Muhammad and other prophets that came before him as to how people in authority should deal with people they are ruling over by prioritising their interest and welfare, Nigeria will be in a better place.”
Among the prominent dignitaries who graced the programme include, Dr. Shakirudeen Olaiwole Onasanya, permanent Secretary, Lagos state Independent electoral Commission (LAISEC) who represented the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
Established in 1948, Anwaru-ul-Islam college Agege, established under the auspices of Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam in Nigeria, is the first Muslim College in West Africa.
