ACReSAL Projects: Ten Communities In Kano Receives Support For Smart Agriculture

Ten Communities in Kano state North West Nigeria have received cheques to undertake investments for climate-smart rain fed Agriculture and improve their businesses.
The Projects under Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) is a World Bank-financed project designed to tackle the pressing issues of land degradation and climate change in Northern Nigeria.
The interest free load is a Community revolving funds giving to registered community and farmer groups to undertake the investments, an interventions by ACReSAL.
Making the cheques disbursement at the Government House Kano, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf stressed that, the collaborative support Projects between Kano, World Bank and Federal Government was aimed at building and strengthening the capacity of community interest groups advance their businesses.
He commended the contributions of ACReSAL in maintaining the environment.
He said, “ACReSAL has made significant strides in tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainability in Kano state.”
Governor noted that, through the ACReSAL projects, the state  has successfully recovered over 30 thousand hectres of degraded land through various afforestation projects.
He said, “We have also through their efforts planted over three million trees using different planting modules strengthening our efforts to combat desertification and improve biodiversity.”
Governor Yusuf while congratulating the ten beneficiary Communities urged them to ensure maximum utilization of the resources to benefit more Communities.
He said, the government is committed in security additional funding and partnership to expand the impact of the community revolving fund initiatives to enable more farmers have access more support for sustainable development.
He stressed that, “this initiative will mark the begging of a new era of food sufficiency and progress for our farmers and entrepreneurs.”
The National Project Coordinator AcResal Alhaji Abdul Hamid Umar who salutes Governor Yusuf’s leadership said, AcResal Projects was meant for the community to improve their economic fortunes.
He urged the beneficiaries to maximize the funds in turning around the economy as well as making others to benefit in the revolving fund.
The Kano state Commissioner for Environment Dr. Dahiru Hashim explained that, the Community Revolving Fund (CRF) initiative under the ACReSAL Project was more than just a financial intervention but a transformational resource designed to uplift communities, enhance agricultural productivity, and strengthen the fight against climate change.
He said, “through this program, we are providing direct financial support to 30 registered Community Interest Groups (CIGs) and farmer cooperatives to invest in climate-smart agriculture that will increase food security, improve livelihoods, and build resilience against environmental challenges.”
The Commissioner said, the selection of the 10 beneficiary communities was guided by strict criteria to ensure that, the funds go to those who are ready and willing to embrace sustainable Agricultural practices.
Under this initiative, we have also established strong governance structures to ensure accountability, transparency, and sustainability.”
Each of the ten Community received $25,000 dollars, equivalent to N48 million Naira.
