The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has disclosed plans to launch a statewide electronic membership registration in December, with a target of enrolling at least 200,000 verified members within the first month of the exercise.

The initiative is part of the party’s drive to establish a reliable, technology-based membership database aimed at eliminating phantom entries and strengthening its electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Yola, the State Secretary of the APC, Dr. Raymond Chidama, said the digital registration would reshape how the party maintains its records and deploys data for planning, empowerment schemes, and administrative decisions.

He explained that the party had reviewed its registration criteria to enhance transparency and electoral relevance.

Dr. Chidama noted that while the National Identification Number (NIN) was previously the major requirement, the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) has now become the primary condition for registration. He emphasised that the adjustment was strategic as members without voter cards add no electoral value to the party.

He added that the data generated would serve as an essential tool for empowerment programmes and palliative interventions, ensuring that only verified and active members benefit.

Also speaking, the State Organizing Secretary and Coordinator of the exercise, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu, said the e-registration became necessary after examining discrepancies between the party’s claimed membership strength and its actual voting performance.

He described the gaps as unacceptable, citing national figures where the APC reportedly has over 50 million members but secured only about 8 million votes in the last presidential election.

Ribadu said that in Adamawa State, the party claims more than 600,000 members yet delivered roughly 200,000 votes in the 2023 polls.

He stressed that the new system would help eliminate ghost members and retain only committed individuals.

According to him, millions of naira had been invested in procuring laptops, printers, laminators, power banks and other equipment, which have already been deployed across zones, local government areas and wards. He reiterated that only accredited ward agents are authorized to register individuals.

Ribadu applauded key stakeholders, including the National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and APC National Vice Chairman Mustapha Salihu, for supporting the process, and said the Adamawa chapter is determined to build a credible, verifiable membership base ahead of the 2027 elections.

He affirmed the party’s readiness to work with the newly inaugurated Adamawa Elders Council, noting that unity, transparency and digital reforms remain central to the APC’s strategy.

“We are focused on winning Adamawa State, and we will win,” he said, expressing optimism that the e-registration platform will mark a turning point in the party’s political trajectory.
