Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has presented a ₦583.3 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

The proposed appropriation, christened the “Budget of Sustainable Growth and Renewal,” is the product of broad-based consultations involving Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), lawmakers and other critical stakeholders across the state.

Presenting the budget, Governor Fintiri explained that the estimates are designed to fund both recurrent and capital development programmes for the 2026 fiscal year, in line with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Strategy Paper.

He disclosed that out of the total budget size of ₦583.3 billion, ₦209.6 billion, representing 35.94 per cent, is allocated to recurrent expenditure, while ₦373.6 billion, accounting for 64.06 per cent, is earmarked for capital projects and development services.

According to the governor, the spending plan was carefully crafted to reflect his administration’s eight-point agenda and guided by the principle of inclusive governance that leaves no one behind while touching all sectors of the economy.

Governor Fintiri noted that the 2026 budget aligns with prevailing economic realities and realistic revenue projections, stressing that expenditure priorities were prudently matched with the state’s fiscal capacity.

He said the administration would prioritise the completion of ongoing projects, initiate new strategic infrastructure developments, deepen investments in education and healthcare, tackle poverty and hunger, and expand support for agriculture, commerce and small and medium-scale enterprises.

The governor further assured that his government would continue to strengthen the investment climate and provide an enabling environment for economic and social activities to thrive across the state.

Highlighting key milestones of his administration, Fintiri cited youth and women empowerment programmes as major achievements, revealing that more than 60,000 beneficiaries had already accessed support through the Fintiri Business Wallet Scheme.

He added that an additional 100,000 beneficiaries are scheduled to receive ₦50,000 each from December 2025, a move he said would significantly reduce poverty across the state.

Governor Fintiri also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, noting that Adamawa State was the first in the country to implement the ₦70,000 minimum wage.

He further stated that ongoing civil service reforms, the digitalisation of government operations and the phased introduction of e-government platforms were enhancing efficiency, transparency and accountability in public service delivery.

In his response, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, assured the governor that lawmakers would give the budget prompt consideration to ensure its timely passage for effective implementation from January 2026.
