Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, of Adamawa State has sworn in ten newly appointed Permanent Secretaries.

According to him, the event is to deliberately transform the civil service into an avenue for reinforcement, as well as strengthen government machinery towards generating greater momentum for enhanced productivity, efficiency and service delivery to the state and the people.

Speaking during the inauguration on Monday March 14, Governor Fintiri urged the newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries to justify their performance in the examination that qualified them to be appointed as Permanent Secretaries with their performance in office, by inspiring others.

According to him, leadership is about expressing views straightforwardly and with clarity, upwards as well as downwards. It’s about innovation and problem-solving.

Governor Fintiri also urged the new permanent secretaries to remain focused, productive and accountable to the administration and the people hired to serve, saying the guiding philosophy of his administration is to ensure that no one is left behind and nothing is left untouched.

He said his administration had recognized the significance of the civil service as indispensable machinery for delivering every governance policy and initiative to fruition.

According to him, his administration for the past two years has invested tremendous effort to strengthen the service through deliberate and fortifying reforms aimed at repositioning the service for enhanced productivity.

He, therefore, said the only way to have a modern Civil Service was to have the required courage to drive bold reforms in the service structure, such as using the most innovative technology, recruiting and retaining the best, then delivering the skills, leadership and freedom the good people need to fulfil their talents.

Governor Fintiri said his administration had subdued mediocrity and upheld the triumph of merit in progression in the service, by overhauling the process of selecting candidates for appointment as Permanent Secretaries in the State.
