The recapitalisation of the Adamawa State Health Supply Management Agency has introduced major reforms to the state’s healthcare delivery, ensuring a steady supply of quality medicines to health facilities.

Executive Secretary of the agency, Pharmacist Dauda Deri, said the new arrangement enables the state to procure drugs directly from certified pharmaceutical manufacturers, eliminating middlemen and ensuring quality, safety, and affordability.

“With the federal government facilitating, states with drug management agencies backed by law can now receive supplies directly from manufacturers,” Deri explained. “

This means every batch can be traced, and if any problem arises, it can be swiftly addressed. This is a big step in eliminating substandard medications.”

He emphasized that the centralization of drug procurement has not only improved efficiency but also reduced costs, making medicines more affordable for both the poor and the general public.

According to Deri, the Governor Fintiri’s prioritization of healthcare has been instrumental to the agency’s success.

Adamawa State’s swift establishment of the Health Supply Management Agency has been recognized nationally, becoming the fastest transformation of its kind in Nigeria.

The agency’s recapitalization has also revitalized the pharmacy profession in the state. “All necessary working tools have been provided by the government, which has encouraged pharmacists who previously left the profession in Adamawa to return,” Deri added.

“For the first time since the creation of the state, we are witnessing such an influx of pharmacists into the civil service.” The Executive Secretary explained

With newly built hospitals, upgraded facilities, and a steady supply of quality drugs, the Adamawa State Health Supply Management Agency is setting a new standard for healthcare delivery in the region.
