The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Nigeria (NDLEA) has received commendation from two traditional rulers in Adamawa state, Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda 11, Kwandi Nunguraya, and Biyapo Bwaltam Bently Mboiman 11, Murum Mbula, for its efforts in tackling substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country.
The monarchs who spoke when they paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa at its national headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, also called for increased collaboration between the NDLEA and the traditional institution.
They said traditional institutions as a respected system in society must play an active and important role in the agency’s fight against the drug scourge especially at the grassroots level where they play influential roles in communities under their control.
They commended the drug supply and drug demand reduction efforts of the agency especially the NDLEA Command in Adamawa state, which they support in various ways.
While speaking, Marwa expressed appreciation to the royal fathers for their visit to support the work of the agency and seek further collaboration.
“As respected traditional rulers in your domains, we encourage you to continue to partner with our Commands around you to engage in advocacy and sensitization of your subjects on the dangers of abusing and dealing in illicit substances. We have to work together as a collective to take this message to the communities and every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” Marwa stated.
He commended them for taking the bold step to identify with and support the work of the agency.
