The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved over N2.6 billion for critical infrastructure and healthcare investments, in a bid to accelerate economic growth and improve public services across the state.
At its 13th meeting held in Yola and presided over by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the council approved N2.097 billion for the construction of road networks, drainage systems, landscaping, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights at the newly completed Yola Town Market.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr James Iliya, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the meeting. He said the contract was awarded to Amija Nigeria Limited and aligns with the administration’s drive to modernise commercial centres and stimulate economic activity.
Commissioner for Trade, Dr Ishaya Dabari, added that shop structures at the market had already been completed, and the new works—targeted for completion within six months—would further enhance the functionality and appeal of the market.
In a separate resolution, the council approved N496 million for the recapitalisation of the Adamawa State Health Supply Management Agency to improve access to quality and affordable medicines.
Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, said the fund would function as a revolving resource, supporting the state’s target of achieving universal health coverage. He noted that Adamawa had last year transitioned from the Essential Drugs Programme to a fully legislated Drug Management Agency, in line with national healthcare reforms.
The agency, established by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, is tasked with combating the distribution of fake and substandard drugs in the state.
Meanwhile, the council also received updates on the state’s ongoing housing projects, including the construction of 1,000 housing units as part of broader urban development and social infrastructure initiatives.
