The Adamawa State government has embarked on fumigation of homes, major drainages and refuge dumps in Yola, the State Capital and Jimeta towns to contain outbreak of cholera, mosquitoes and other pests in the state.

While addressing the fumigators, Commissioner for Education, Dr Umar Garba-Pella, directed them to ensure house-to- house disinfectants of over twenty wards in the metropolis and extend the same to the twenty-one Local Government Areas in the State.
The outbreak of cholera, had so far claimed over twelve lives in the State, with over three hundred others hospitalised.

On the monthly sanitation exercise in the state, the Commissioner said the government dedicated the month September sanitation to curb cholera, calling the fumigators to ensure desilting the drainages to facilitate the free flow of water to contain flooding.

The Commissioner urged residents to support the exercise, adding that fumigation and other sprays would destroy dangerous insects like mosquitoes and their larvae as well as ensure a healthy environment.
“The reintroduction of the monthly sanitation is a good measure to tackle cholera, flood and malaria associated with this season,” he added.

He also reiterated government commitment to ensuring hygiene and a clean environment.

The Adamawa State Government has dedicated the last Saturday of every month, as environmental sanitation day, in which activities and movement in the entire state are halted until 10 am.
