Adamawa’s First Female Governorship Candidate emerges as APC Flagbearer

History has been made in Adamawa State; as Senator Aishatu Binani of the All Progressive Congress, APC emerges as the governorship flag bearer.
The Chairman of the Primaries Committee, Alhaji Gambo Lawal, announced the result in Yola, adding that Binani defeated five male contestants to pick the party’s ticket, making her the first female candidate of any political party in Adamawa State.
He declared, “Of the total number of valid votes cast, Senator Ashatu Dahiru Binani scored 430 and has the highest number of votes cast. She is hereby returning as the winner of the primary election.”
The serving senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District scored 430 votes, defeating her closest rival, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime’s Commission, EFCC, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, who scored 288, followed by former Governor, Senator Jibrilla Bindow, who scored 103.
While a serving House of Representatives member, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas, scored 94 votes, leaving Mr. Umar Mustapha with 39 votes and Mr. Wafari Therman with 21 votes.
In the election, which lasted till the early hours of Friday, May 27, the Primaries Committee Chairman said 1,130 delegates were accredited, and 1,011 of them cast their votes, while the remaining 36 were invalid votes.
