The leadership of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, has paid its condolence to the Ibadan Council of Chiefs and the Oyo State Council of Obas over the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan who is known as Lord of Ibadan in Oyo State Southwest Nigeria. On Sunday, January 2, 2022, he passed at the University Teaching Hospital Ibadan after a protracted illness.

The ADP also sympathised with the members of the royal family, Yoruba nation, the ADP member in the Oyo State House of Assembly, and Governor Seyi Makinde, of Oyo State Southwest Nigeria.

The National Chairman of ADP, Mr Yabagi Sani, stated that the Late Oba who passed on at the grand age of 93 years would be remembered for his role in the peaceful conduct and the transformational outcomes of the 2019 general election in Oyo State. He was the grandeur of an upright and incorruptible traditional ruler.

Mr Sani added that the reign of Oba Saliu Adetunji “coincided with the eruption of social and political crises in most parts of Yoruba land. He added that the wisdom he deployed as an astute Royal father ensured that Ibadan land and the wider Oyo State was minimally afflicted.”

According to Sani, “the late Olubadan would also be remembered for his generosity and unassuming personality, firm and courageous especially in the course of justice, equity and in defence of the history, traditional values and mores of the ancient throne of Ibadan.

“Sadly, the reign of Oba Saliu Adetunji coincided with the eruption of social and political crises in most parts of Yoruba land. However, the wisdom he deployed as an astute Royal father ensured that Ibadan land and the broader Oyo state was minimally afflicted.

The ADP family is also praying that the Olubadan-in-Council, (the Ibadan King Makers) will be divinely guided in choosing a successor to the historic throne.
