Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for advancing to the semifinals of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 1-0 win over Angola on Friday.

Idris said the team displayed a “gladiatorial performance” that has made Nigerians proud, and expressed optimism that the Super Eagles are on course to win their fourth AFCON title.

“With a performance like today’s, Nigerians look forward to more outstanding victories in the Super Eagles next matches leading to a befitting victory in the AFCON finals,” Idris said in a statement on Friday.

The decisive goal of the match came from Nigeria’s forward, Ademola Lookman, who opened the scoring after good work from Moses Simon in the 41st minute.
Nigeria will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Cape Verde and South Africa, which will be played on Saturday.

The 2024 AFCON is the 34th edition of the continental football tournament, which features 24 teams from Africa. The final will be held on Feb. 11 in Abidjan, the economic capital of Cote d’Ivoire.
