AFCON U-17: Nigeria Beat South Africa To Advance To Quarter Finals

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Saturday defeated South Africa 3-2 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ongoing under-17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON in Algeria.

The South Africans took the lead in seven minutes through Vicky Mkhawana. This woke up the Eaglets as they pushed for an equalizer.

It paid off in 34 minutes after sustained pressure from the Nigerian side, as Charles Agada equalised.

Few seconds to the break, the South Africans doubled their lead from a brilliant strike by Siyabonga Mabena after dribbling his way through and unleashing a bullet of a shot which beat the Nigerian goalkeeper.

The Eaglets equalised a minute after the break with Eke finishing off after a brilliant run by Agada.

Abdullahi Abubakar gave the Nigerian side the third goal in 64 minutes. It was the first time in the game the Nigerian side took the lead and held on.

The Eaglets mounted sustained pressure on the South African as they aimed for the fourth goal, hitting the post on one occasion.

The win takes the Golden Eaglets second on the table, tied on the same points with Morocco after the Moroccan team lost to Zambia in their final game.
