AFNIS 2024: African Nation’s Urged To Harness Natural Resources For Economic Growth

African Countries have been urged to harness their abundant natural resources to foster economic growth, combat climate change and alleviate poverty in the continent.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Oladele Alake made the call ahead of the 3rd Edition of the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit, AFNIS, 2024.

The summit is scheduled to take place at the State house Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday, 16 to Thursday, 18 of July, 2024 with the theme: Natural Resources for Economic Development representing a pivotal moment for the continent.

 

The Minister said the summit will underscore the significant role that Africa’s natural resources play in driving economic prosperity.

 

He said “AFNIS 2024, an initiative of Core I-mine in company in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, is more than just a conference; it is a vital platform that brings together government officials, private sectors, and industry experts. Our shared objective is to harness Africa’s vast natural resources in a sustainable manner, driving economic growth, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and fostering the development of cleaner, more accessible, and reliable energy sources’’

 

Emphasising on the summit’s importance, the Minister further said ‘‘AFNIS 2024 is not merely a gathering of minds but a convergence of visionaries committed to transforming Africa’s natural resource landscape. Our discussions and decisions will resonate across the continent, influencing policies, shaping industries, and setting the course for a sustainable future.’’

 

Dr. Alake said the focus will be on empowering marginalised communities and using fossil fuel revenues strategically for Africa’s green transition.

The Minister said the key areas will address, Economic Growth and Prosperity, Empowering Marginalised Communities and Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals.

 

He further noted that  gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and transition to Cleaner Energy and proactive climate action will also be addressed,  ‘each of these goals is interconnected, and our strategy involves a holistic approach that considers the multifaceted nature of development. Through innovative policies and strategic investments, we can create a balanced growth model that benefits all sectors of society.’’

 

The Minister said in  acknowledging Africa’s vast potential, the summit calls on all stakeholders to collaborate and innovate in unlocking Africa’s natural resources for a sustainable and prosperous future.

‘’Let us commit to fostering partnerships, sharing knowledge, and implementing strategies that will drive our collective progress. The future of Africa depends on the actions we take today.

The Special Guest of honour is Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu while key note speakers are: Nigerian Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladele Alake, Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, Minister Trade and Investment, Dr.Doris Uzoka-anite, Minister of Steel Development Resources, Prince Shuaibu Audu amongst other African Ministers
