Kogi State Governor in North central Nigeria, Usman Ododo has called on Nigerians to unite in their collective efforts to sustain the peace achieved under the current administration.

The Governor made the call on Wednesday in the capital, Lokoja, during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, after laying wreaths at the World War I and II Cenotaphs.

The ceremony honours the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid their lives in various military conflicts, including World War I and II, the Nigerian Civil War, and peacekeeping operations.

While delivering his speech, Governor Ododo expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the military and families of fallen heroes, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens and residents in the state.

He said; “As we honour our gallant men who protected the sovereignty of Nigeria, who gave their lives so that we can have our peace in the land of the living. We remember you and we pray that the Almighty God forgives your shortcomings.

“We celebrate them for what they stood for; they stood for peace, unity, and hope. I pledge my continued support to the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and we stand to support the wives and children of our fallen heroes in the provision of free healthcare through the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme.”

The event is a significant tradition in Nigeria, typically marked on January 15th every year. It commemorates the end of the Nigerian Civil War, which ceased on January 15, 1970. During the ceremony, Governor Ododo paid his respects to the fallen soldiers, acknowledging their bravery and selflessness.

Governor Ododo commended the exceptional quality of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in prioritising the Peace and Unity of our dear Nation.

Health Scheme Enrolment

Meanwhile, he has approved free enrollment of the families of the fallen heroes into the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme.

Members of the Nigerian legion of ex-servicemen in the state appealed to governments at all levels in Nigeria to improve their welfare as they appealed for free medical care for families of ex-service men in the state.
