Africa records over 13m vaccinations, 4.6m COVID-19 cases
As of May 7, 2021, confirmed cases of COVID-19 from 55 African countries reached 4,607,326 while over 13,120,378 vaccinations have been administered across the continent.
Reported deaths in Africa reached 123,616 and 4,159,294 people have recovered. South Africa has the most reported cases – 1,590,370 – and 54,620 people died. Other most-affected countries are Morocco ( 513,016 ), Tunisia ( 317,010 ), Ethiopia ( 260,802 ), Egypt ( 234,015 ), Libya ( 179,193 ) and Nigeria ( 165,301 ).
These figures are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well as national and regional public health departments.
