Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) have been urged to intensify its marketing efforts in a bid to diversify the body’s revenue, during the third edition of its Region 2 Ministers Bureau meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The Executive Chairman, Local Organising Committee for the 2023 games, Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, made the call to the Africa Union Sports Council.
He said there was need for the AUSC to employ a new marketing approach in order to generate multiple revenues.
“What the AUSC is lacking is a proper marketing Department, they have refused to realise that to move away from the old way of doing things, they must be able to ensure that they have a very powerful and viable marketing section,” Ofosu-Asare said.
“This would assist them in bringing in revenue from various sources. From the political angle, countries can ensure that corporate bodies sponsor the games and competitions in the region and get some form of tax rebate in return.”
Parts of the issues deliberated upon includes the AUSC Region 2 statue, payment of annual subscriptions by member countries, identification of various sources of funding by the secretariat ,as well as filling the vacancy position of the Deputy General Manager by Senegal in the Secretariat headquarters.
The Four Day meeting is expected to come to an end on Thursday, 26th May 2022.
