African leaders have been urged to embrace democracy as the best form of government.

The head of Political Science of Lagos State, LASU, Professor Sylvester Akhaine who made the call, said that crisis in Sudan can be regarded as internal Affairs of Sudan and AU, not the affairs of the US and other world powers.

Professor Akhaine said that democracy is the answer in African leadership and urged Sudanese military of General Abdel Fattah to restore democracy in Sudan by allowing people to choose their government themselves.

This advice followed the reinstatement of the leadership of the former Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok in Sudan by the coup leaders.

Sudan’s ousted Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has been reinstated following last month’s coup when he was put under house arrest.

Mr Hamdok has appeared on TV to sign a new power-sharing agreement with coup leader General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, amid continuing mass protests.

But, the civilian coalition that nominated Mr Hamdok as PM two years ago refused to acknowledge any new deal because the pact had been struck with a gun to his head.

Western powers, including the US, UK and EU, have welcomed Mr Hamdok’s reinstatement and called for more political detainees to be freed.

The military has come under intense international and domestic pressure to restore the transition to democracy.

Meanwhile, there have been daily protests since 25th October when the military declared a state of emergency and dissolve the civilian leadership.

The mass protests have led to more than forty fatalities.
