The League of African Ambassadors has congratulated Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, a seasoned diplomat from Djibouti, on his historic election as the new Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Youssouf’s victory came after a rigorous selection process, with seven rounds of voting, at the 38th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
With over two decades of diplomatic experience, Youssouf has served as Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and as an ambassador to several countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda.
His impressive track record has earned him a reputation as a champion of African unity and cooperation.
AUC Chairperson, Youssouf will lead efforts to promote peace, security, and stability across Africa, while accelerating continental integration and fostering economic development.
His leadership will also be pivotal in shaping the African Union’s policies and advancing its core values of unity, solidarity, and cooperation.
The League of African Ambassadors has pledged to work closely with Youssouf to mobilize African ambassadors and diplomats in promoting the African Union’s objectives.
Youssef’s election marks a new chapter for the African Union Commission, offering an opportunity to reinforce Africa’s collective vision for development, peace, and integration.
